Welcome!
- To begin...
- Welcome to the Phoenix: Lakeland's Premiere Literary Magazine! Finally, there is a place for Lakeland's writers to showcase their talent, a place where your imagination can soar. This annual publication highlights the best writers of the year in both poetry and prose. We also showcase art, such as photography, drawings, and much more. For all of you budding artists, this is a great way to get your artistic skills recognized for any future endeavors.
- Why in the world should I submit!
- So what do you gain by submitting your work? Apart from being chosen as one of the school's top artists, colleges love to accept students who have been published, in both art and writing, into their fold. This is a step in the right direction for anyone that plans to attend an institution of higher learning after graduation.
- Ok, so what's the skinny?
- Please be aware that every work submitted will not make it into the magazine. There is a limited number accepted each year, and only the best work will be published. This honor also gives truly gifted writers the opportunity to show off their skills. In order to ensure you have the best chance possible, here are a few guidelines that you should follow:
- Please take time to revise your work. Make sure your spelling, grammar, and punctuation are correct. Since our editors work under tight deadlines, the cleaner pieces will receive first consideration.
- All writing must be submitted as a Word document or Text document (text documents will lose your original formatting, so if you want a little more control about how your work looks, please stick to Word format.)
- Hard copies of writing (on paper) will be accepted in the drop-off box in room 403. Please keep in mind though that writing submitted in this fashion is considered after writing submitted electronically.
- All work submitted must include the following information:
- Full name
- Title
- E-mail address (if applicable--in case we have a question about your work)
- Type of Writing--Fiction, Poetry or Creative Nonfiction
- Type of Art--Photography, Drawing, etc.
- Theme of Work (ex. addiction, animals, family, etc.)
- All work submitted becomes the property of The Phoenix and will not be returned to the writer.
- Deadlines for submitting to the 2006 edition are April 15th.
