I am thrilled to share some exciting news about one of our own, Matthew (Class of 2022), who has achieved remarkable success as the co-lead of mechanical design for the Northeastern University Mars Rover Team. This past weekend, they secured 3rd place in the highly competitive, international University Rover Challenge held in the Utah desert, designed to replicate the surface of Mars.

This achievement is a testament to the months of hard work and dedication that Matthew and his team put into this project. Their innovative design and teamwork truly shone during the 4-day competition.

A special shoutout to Mr. Coren and the LRHS robotics program, as well as UPAL, for nurturing Matthew’s passion for robotics and providing him with the foundation to excel in this field.

In addition to this incredible accomplishment, Matthew has also accepted a 6-month Co-Op with Honeybee Robotics, a subsidiary of Blue Origin, in Altadena, CA. He is on track to graduate in June 2026 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a BS in Electrical Engineering, although his graduation date may be adjusted due to this valuable Co-Op experience.

Congratulations, Matthew! We are proud of your achievements and can’t wait to see what you accomplish next!
